Peacebuilders Committee:
The Lake Oswego is recognized by the Rotary Action Group for Peace as a Peace Builder Club. Its focus is primarily serving the local community through funding from the Local Rotary Club Foundation. An ongoing project is the annual visit to Lake Oswego by least two teen-aged couples of students from Cyprus, the students selected through the Friendships for Peace program.
The Peace Poles seen throughout the community and schools were provided by the Rotary Club in the past. The club is also supportive of the Dr. Martin Luther King commemorations held at Marys Woods, providing manpower for Habitat for Humanity projects when requested, and Ukranian refugees in the area. Projects may vary annually.
The Rotary Foundation (TRF) – Rotary International (RI)
Unlike the Local Rotary Club Foundation, this premiere international foundation is the mechanism that funds worldwide projects. Many Rotarians donate annually to this fund, and every year the funding that was donated to TRF among the members in the district three years earlier comes back to the district minus 3% of the principle donated. RI uses the investments from the funds to support the international infrastructure. TRF has a 4-Star rating in Charity Navigator.
Non-Rotarians may donate to The Rotary Foundation. However, if the gift is done through a club or the district, the bulk of the donation will come back to the district to support sustainable international and local projects through district grants.
