Vocational Career Conversations & Exploration

Guidance. Connections. Opportunity.

At Lake Oswego Rotary, we believe vocational service means using our experience, networks, and leadership to help students grow. Our mentoring initiative connects high school and college-age students with Rotarians and community leaders who are ready to share practical wisdom, encouragement, and real-world perspectives as they explore their future.

This is mentorship rooted in service: helping people navigate decisions, building confidence, expand their networks, and moving forward with purpose.

Our Mission

Our mission is to support high school and college-age students as they prepare for their future by making mentorship accessible, personal, and meaningful. Through one-to-one guidance and relationship-based support, we aim to:

  • encourage student growth, confidence, and curiosity
  • help students explore careers, leadership, and service
  • connect students to trusted experience and community networks
  • reflect Rotary’s commitment to service, integrity, and opportunity for all

What Mentoring Looks Like

Lake Oswego Rotary mentors offer practical, encouraging guidance shaped by real experience. Depending on the match, mentoring may include:

  • career exploration and exposure to different professions
  • goal setting, confidence-building, and leadership development
  • advice on college, transfer, trade, technical, and early career pathways
  • résumé, interview, internship, and networking readiness support
  • encouragement for navigating choices, challenges, and next steps

Mentoring is not about having all the answers. It is about showing up, listening well, and helping someone move forward.

Who This Is For

Our mentoring effort is designed for high school and college-age students who would benefit from trusted guidance, including:

  • High school students exploring career paths and future opportunities
  • College-age students seeking direction, encouragement, and professional insight
  • Students considering college, transfer, trade, or technical education pathways
  • Young people developing leadership skills, confidence, and community connection

Why Rotary

Rotary brings together people of action from a wide range of professions and life experiences. Vocational mentoring is one of the clearest ways we can live out that commitment locally.

When Rotarians mentor students, we do more than share advice. We open doors, build confidence, and invest in the future of our community.

Let’s Build the Next Generation of Leaders

Mentorship changes trajectories. Conversations can build confidence. A relationship can open a door. A community that shares its knowledge becomes stronger for everyone.

Lake Oswego Rotary is proud to invest in people through vocational mentoring — one connection at a time.
